Meet Our Team

Mindful Families offers a calm, welcoming, and nurturing space for children, adolescents, adults, and families. Our clinic has been thoughtfully designed to feel safe, accepting, and comfortable, so the people we work with feel supported to open up, connect, explore, and grow. Some of our clients tell us it’s like a home away from home.

All of our practitioners work from a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming lens, ensuring each person is understood and respected as they are. We are a family run practice offering evidence-based therapy and assessment across the lifespan. Our team takes a holistic and compassionate approach to wellbeing, recognising the importance of relationships, environment, routines, sleep, nutrition, social connection, self-care, and community support in a person’s life.

We understand that every individual, family, and situation is unique. Our practitioners collaborate with clients to create tailored therapy plans that consider the whole person and, where helpful, the whole family system. Our clinicians draw on a range of approaches, including:

  • Mindfulness-based and Compassion-Focused therapies

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Systemic and Clinical Family Therapy

  • Emotion-Focused approaches

  • Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) for adults

  • Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

We also specialise in supporting families and relationships through systemic and attachment-informed family therapy. Therapy is available both face-to-face in our Nerang clinic and online via Teleheath for your convenience.

Mindful Families Australia is an inclusive practice. We warmly welcome all people and honour each person’s story. We value the strengths, perspectives, and contributions that every individual and family brings to our community.

  • Dr Brett Parton

    Clinical Psychologist

    BPsych (Hons), PhD (ClinPsych), MAPS

Brett is a compassionate clinical psychologist who strives to help individuals experience both relief from often debilitating symptoms as well as long-term change and growth. He brings a direct and goal-oriented approach to therapy, while aiming at all times to provide a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental environment.

Brett has experience working with individuals across a range of contexts and difficulties. These include helping people with anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, substance use and addictions, difficulties associated with trauma and loss, persistent pain, relationship and communication difficulties, difficulties managing anger, and generally improving insight and self-understanding.

Brett primarily works with adults in a collaborative non-manualised approach known as Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), having completed an additional three-years post-university training in this modality. This approach focuses on identifying and understanding the mechanisms we have all unconsciously learnt to use as a way to avoid experiencing complex feelings and emotions with those closest to us. Once these mechanisms are understood and let go, the focus is then on fully experiencing these complex feelings and emotions in a genuine and authentic way. This process helps individuals understand their emotions and use their feelings as the compass to life that they are meant to be.
